Thomas shuts out Manchester

The Providence Bruins and Manchester Monarchs concluded their 10-game season series on Saturday night in Manchester, with the Bruins taking a hard-fought 1-0 decision. The Bruins were 5-4-0-1 against Manchester this season. Head Coach Scott Gordon's team is 31-24-10-3 (75 points) on the season, putting them in fourth place in the tight Atlantic Division standings. The Bruins are now just one point behind the third place Worcester IceCats.

Bruin goaltender Tim Thomas stopped all 23 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season, tying a franchise single-season record. Current Boston Bruins goaltender and former P-Bruin Andrew Raycroft established the record with four shutouts in the 2001-02 season. Thomas is now 15-12-5 on the season.

Bruin center Kris Vernarsky tallied the lone goal of the game in the second period, with assists from Darren VanOene and Matt Herr. Vernarsky's goal was his eighth of the season.

The Bruins return home to host the Portland Pirates on Sunday, March 21 at 4:05 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to see the Calder Cup, as it makes its annual tour around the AHL. The Calder Cup will be on display on the concourse behind Section 101, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
