Rockford Lightning News Release
Rockford, IL- With the 21st Annual CBA All-Star Classic one week away, the Rockford Lightning have some unfinished business to attend to before the All-Star Break. The Bolts finish up their slate of games before the break on the road, with games at Gary and Idaho. The Lightning hope to improve on the road, a place where they have only won twice this season.
Wednesday night, the Lightning take on Eastern Conference rival Gary, the team that received the most all-star selections for the conference. Rockford is looking for revenge on the Steelheads, who defeated the Bolts in their last meeting on January 8th by a score of 125-105 at the Genesis Center. The Lightning have a tough test against the Steelheads, who have gotten back leading scorer Jemeil Rich from a spider bite.
Then, the Bolts go west to face off against the Idaho Stampede. Rockford and Idaho last met on Sunday, January 9th, with the Lightning earning the 128-120 victory. The Lightning and Stampede face off at the Idaho Center in Nampa on back-to-back nights, Friday and Saturday, January 14 and 15. In the last meeting between the two teams, Idaho's Britton Johnsen was 5-for-5 from three-point land, and he led the way with 27 points.
Then, on January 19th, the Rockford Lightning will be well represented at the CBA's 21st Annual All-Star Classic. Head Coach Chris Daleo, and his assistant coaches, will lead the Eastern Conference All-Star Squad for the game at Gary's Genesis Center. Part of the Eastern Conference squad will be guard/forward Marshall Phillips, who is Rockford's leading scorer, averaging 19.8 points per game. Rookie Sidney Holmes will also be making the trip to Gary, as he will be participating in the Slam Dunk Contest prior to the All-Star game. Tip-off for the All-Star Game in Gary is at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19th.
The Rockford Lightning do not return to the MetroCentre until Tuesday, January 25th, when they host the Great Lakes Storm. Like all weekday games, all kids tickets will be half-price. Enjoy a performance by the Stephen Mack Middle School Dance Team at halftime of the game. Tip off is slated for 7:05 p.m, for tickets, call the MetroCentre box office at 815-968-5222.
