
Steelheads survive Lightning

Gary, IN: The Gary Steelheads faced their rival, the Rockford Lightning for the second time in five days tonight. The margin of victory was a little smaller this time, but the Steelheads still managed to pull out a 105-104 victory. In the process the Steelheads managed to capture five quarter points, to run their total to 71 on the season.
The Steelheads lost the first quarter on a Ronnie Fields trademark fall away jumper at the buzzer, losing 34-33. David Graves had 12 points in the quarter. The Steelheads came back to win the second quarter, 33-23, and lead at the half 66-57. David Graves continued to lead the way for the Steelheads with 23 points. Jemeil Rich had 18 points and 6 assists at the half.
The Steelheads continued to pour it on the Lightning, as they won the third quarter 24-22, and led after three, 90-79. The fourth quarter saw the Lightning climb back into the ball game. The Lightning actually tied the ball game at 103 with 1:28 left in the game. Shelly Clark and Lonnie Jones would proceed to hit a free throw each to put the game at 105-103 Steelheads. The Lightning would send David Graves to the line with four seconds left to shoot two free throws. Graves, an 82% free throw shooter, proceeded to miss both free throws. Then a Steelheads foul on Darrin Hancock with .3 seconds left sent the Lightning¡¦s Stais Boseman to the line looking to tie the game. Boseman would make the first, but miss the second as the Steelheads escaped with a 105-104 victory.
Leading the way for the Steelheads was David Graves with 29 points. Jemeil Rich had 20 points, 10 assists, and 8 steals. Darrin Hancock had 18 points and Shelly Clark had 9 points, 123 rebounds, and 8 assists in the win. Stais Boseman had 27 points for the Lightning.
