Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips fell to the Kootenay Ice Saturday night, 6-3, after giving up five third period goals. Everett's Shane Harper lead the Everett offense with two goals and one assist on the night pushing his season totals to 28 points (11G, 17A). The Ice's Dustin Sylvester had a huge night scoring a hat trick and two assists totaling five points on the night. Everett outshot Kootenay 36-26 and the loss Saturday marked the first time all season the Silvertips have lost when outshooting an opponent. Including Saturday night's game Everett posts an all-time regular season record of 3-3-0-0-1 against Kootenay.
This brings the 'Tips record to 14-11-3-0 with 31 points in 28 games played standing five points behind second place Spokane Chiefs in the U.S. Division. The Silvertips are now 5-4-1-0 in their last 10 games. The Silvertips return to action on Friday December 5th traveling to Prince George to face the Cougars at 7:35pm.
For the second game in a row it didn't take the Silvertips very long to take the lead. At 4:35 of the first period Harper scored his 10th goal of the season. After a big save from Kootenay goaltender Nathan Lieuwen on a Daniel Bartek redirect from a Kyle Beach slap shot, Harper grabbed the rebound on the side of the net and buried the puck top shelf to give Everett the 1-0 lead. Kootenay however would not stay down long when the Ice capitalized on a 5 on 3 man advantage. Andrew Bailey scored his 13th goal of the season after receiving a Brayden McNabb backdoor pass and beating a diving Shayne Barrie to tie the game at one.
Fast paced action opened up the second period when Lieuwen came out with a great back door split-legged save, stopping what should have been a Dale Hunt goal, keeping the score tied. On the next shift Kootenay came strong into the Everett zone and scored what appeared to be their second goal of the night, but the goal was quickly waived off after Tylan Stephens ran into Barrie interfering with his ability to make a save and drawing an Everett power play. The rest of the second period stayed scoreless thanks to strong goaltending in both ends with Everett outshooting Kootenay 20-17 after 40 minutes.
A wild third period went underway as Kootenay took the 2-1 lead after Sylvester scored his 14th of the year shorthanded at 1:28. Sylvester took the puck after Byron Froese mishandled the puck at the offensive blue line to go 2 on 1 and score on a hard wrist shot past Barrie. Everett would get the goal back on the same power play just 38 seconds later as Chris de la Lande put home his third of the year after a hard wrist shot beat Lieuwen.
The Ice would not sit back, after a wide shot hit off the boards the puck bounced to the side of the net where Max Reinhardt would give Kootenay the 3-2 lead at 4:31. A similar goal got Everett back into the game at 6:59, when a missed Jesse Burt shot hit the glass and rebounded right in front of the goal line where Harper tapped in his 11th goal of the season and tied the game 3-3. Kootenay still had some offense left in them when Michael Stickland scored his 10th of the year at 9:25 giving the Ice a 4-3 lead. Sylvester then scored two empty net goals in the final 1:34 of the game to score a third period hat trick and lead Kootenay to a 6-3 victory.
