
Third Period Lifts Wolves Over IceHogs, 4-2

ROCKFORD, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves bagged two goals in the third period to pick up a 4-2 win against the Rockford IceHogs at the Rockford MetroCentre Wednesday night.
Forwards Nigel Dawes, Michael Davies and Ryan Garbutt and defenseman Arturs Kulda tallied goals for the Wolves.
Entering the third period tied at two, the Wolves recaptured the lead, 3-2, 2:05 into the final frame. Garbutt's shot from the side of the goal was redirected of an IceHogs defender's stick and into the net past Rockford goaltender Alec Richards, top shelf.
Chicago (15-14-2-0) doubled its lead, 4-2, just under two minutes later when Kulda ripped a shot from the point past Richards, top shelf.
Richards (6-8-1) blocked 11 shots in 43:46 of action, while Rockford backup netminder Hannu Toivonen recorded nine saves in 14:29 minutes of relief duty.
Chicago opened scoring with a power-play strike 13:40 into the first period when Dawes fired a shot from the left faceoff circle past Richards, glove side.
Rockford (10-12-1-4) answered with its own power-play tally when center Peter LeBlanc took a pass in the slot and put the puck past Chicago goaltender Peter Mannino to tie the game 1-1, 15:20 into the first frame.
The IceHogs took the 2-1 lead when center Jeff Taffe drove the puck down the slot and lifted it over Mannino 11:42 into the middle frame.
Mannino (10-6-0) posted 30 saves in the win.
Davies blasted a shot past Richards, top shelf to tie the score 2-2 for the Wolves 14:52 into the second period.
The Wolves finish up their four-game road swing with a rematch at Rockford on Fri., Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
