PORTLAND, ME - The Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League re-assigned rookie forward Luke Adam to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League today.

Adam returns after his third recall of the season. The 20 year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native enjoyed an eight-game stretch with the Sabres in which he collected his first NHL goal and assist. In 10 games this season with the Sabres Adam registered two points and eight minutes in penalties.

Adam returns to the Pirates where he sits third in team scoring with 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 17 games. Despite missing 10 games while on NHL recall, the 6-foot-2 forward still ranks sixth in AHL rookie scoring and his 11 goals are tied for fourth most among first-year players.

In another roster move, the Pirates released Justin Bowers from his tryout agreement. The veteran forward, who was returned to Greenville in the ECHL, played three games without registering a point.

The Pirates (17-8-1-1) complete a stretch of four straight games on the road when they travel to Manchester to face the Monarchs on Friday for a 7 p.m. start. The game can be heard live on News Talk 95.5 WLOB and on-line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 2:45 p.m.

The Pirates return home Saturday (December 18) at 7 p.m. in a rematch against the Monarchs.
