Keystone Ice Miners News Release

CONNELLSVILLE, PA - In a game that was tight through two period of play, the Janesville Jets pulled away with four third period goals on the way to a 5-0 win over Keystone at the Ice Mine on Friday night. The Jets extended their North Division lead, improving to 11-5-1, while the Ice Miners fell to the .500 mark at 7-7-2.

The lone goal through the first two period was scored by Kyle Patava at the 8:28 mark of the first period, as he drove the net off the faceoff and put it over the shoulder of Alex Blankenburg. Blankenburg and his counter part, Jared Rutledge, who was starting only his second game of the season, both received game misconduct penalties when they dropped the gloves midway through the 2nd period. Although neither goaltender got off a punch, the officials ejected both players.

In the third period, the Jets netted three goals in a span of 4:38. First, defenseman Zach Yoder converted on a breakaway after blocking a shot. Then, Robert Smits scored back to back goals, vitually putting the game away. Evan Feno added a goal in the final minute to bring the score to a 5-0 final. Matt Jurusik picked up the victory in relief, making 18 saves after coming in in relief of Rutledge.

The Ice Miners and Jets will play again Saturday night at 7:30 at the Ice Mine as military appreciation weekend continues. Military members with I.D. get tickets for $6. Gates open at 6:30.
