Streak Hits Three in Coulee

November 8, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Austin Bruins News Release

A decent start turned into an ugly finish Friday for the struggling Austin Bruins (8-4-5) in a 4-1 loss to the Coulee Region Chill (8-6-2) at the Green Island Ice Arena in Lacrosse, WI.

The Bruins top-ranked penalty kill got the scoring started, as rookie Jade Miller (Minto, ND) tallied his first career goal. Miller scooped up the puck in stride off of a Luke Forfar (Darien, IL) clear and beat Chill goalie Adam Carlson (Edina, MN) on a breakaway with the backhander.

Late in the period, Coulee Region tied the game when a successful forecheck and lengthy shift in the Bruins zone resulted in some puck luck. Rookie Charlie Parker (Verona, WI) was the beneficiary, ripping a puck that bounced onto his tape into the top shelf over Bruins goalie Zach Driscoll (Apple Valley, MN - St. Cloud State).

Former Bruin Dominik Florian (Vlasim, Czech Republic) gave the Chill a 2-1 lead in the second when he flew past the Bruins defenders and fired the shot over the glove of Driscoll at the end of the breakaway. Both teams struggled to muster much on their power-play chances, as Austin failed on its first three man-advantages and Coulee Region was 0-for-4.

The Chill took control for good from the drop of the puck to start the third. Parker picked up his second of the game to make it 3-1, followed by a phantom goal by Vince Marinaro (Hampshire, IL) that looked like it hit the post and bounced right back out into the crease to put the nail in the Bruins coffin. Coulee Region outshot Austin 46-38 in its third consecutive win over its border rival.

Saturday will be the final meeting of four-in-a-row between these two teams, as the Bruins host the Chill at 7:05pm at Riverside Arena in Austin. The game can be seen on fasthockey.com or heard on 1480AM KAUS in Austin.
