Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - David Zevnik posted his first-career shutout, and Kevin Charyszyn scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season to lead the Wichita Falls Wildcats to a 3-0 win over the Amarillo Bulls at the Kay Yeager Coliseum, as the Wildcats completed the weekend sweep on Saturday night.

Cam Knight and Austin Beaulieu also scored in the win for the 'Cats, while Tommy Apap chipped in with a pair of assists. Matt Koch and Colin Staub tacked on assists in the contest, while Zevnik turned aside all 22 shots he faced to earn his fourth win of the season.

The first period played out evenly, with both teams trading chances on the odd-man rush that fell by the wayside, and it seemed the frame would end scoreless until a late power-play opportunity for Wichita Falls.

After Nick Farmer had drawn a tripping penalty in the last 40 seconds of the period, the Wildcats went to work on their first power-play chance of the night. With the puck at the blue line and traffic in front, Matt Koch sent a wrist shot floating towards the net, where Charyszyn deflected it home from the slot to make it 1-0. The goal, coming at 19:46 of the period, is the 11th of the season for Charyszyn.

Penalties played a large role in the second period, with the two teams combining for 36 penalty minutes and five power play opportunities, including a lengthy five-on-three for Amarillo, but both goaltenders stood strong to keep the score 1-0 at the intermission.

In the third period, Wichita Falls used a pair of goals to put the game out of reach, with the first coming just 26 seconds into the frame.

As the Wildcats finishing out a power play that had carried over from the second, they earned an offensive zone draw to the left of Anton Martinsson. Apap won the draw cleanly back to Knight at the top of the circle, and Knight ripped it just inside the post first-time to make it 2-0.

Beaulieu would tack on another insurance tally halfway through the frame to make it 3-0, as he turned home Staub's centering feed after being left alone between the hashmarks, which is where the game finished.

The Wildcats are next in action when they host the Bulls on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the KYC. Anyone with valid military ID will receive $5 admission that night, with puck drop slated for 7:05 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the arena may follow all the action on FASTHockey.com, as well as via an audio-only broadcast available on YouTube.
