October 31, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush took on the Colorado Eagles for the first time this season, looking for their first win at the Budweiser Events Center. The Rush held the lead going into the final 20 minutes, and although outshot, the Eagles found the back of the net three times in five minutes to win 7-4.
In the opening frame the Rush, looking to quickly erase the memory of Tuesday's two-shot first period, were able to send a total of 11 in on Eagles netminder Andrew Penner. Scoring the game's first goal was Les Reaney who received an assist from Rapid City's newest addition, Luke Erickson. The Eagles answered with their first shot of the game 1:20 later as Kevin Ulanski evened the score with Riley Nelson and Ryan Tobler picking up the helpers. At the 9:51 mark, the Rush would regain the lead with the 3rd goal of the season from Brendon Hodge. The Eagles would make sure to tie the contest before heading into the second as Steve Haddon took advantage of a defensive zone turnover.
The Eagles began the second period on a 5-on-3 powerplay and Aaron Schneekloth made sure to take advantage of it, giving the Eagles their first lead of the contest, 3-2. It looked as though the score would remain that way heading into the third, but a pair of Bemidji State University products had different ideas as Brendan Cook and Blaine Jarvis would net goals just 35 seconds apart. Cook's goal gave him 10 points on the season, the first Rush player to do so, while Jarvis netted his first goal of the season. Assisting on Jarvis' goal was Rich Hansen who collected his 150th regular season assist. Although being outshot 17-8 in the second, the Rush headed to the dressing room leading 4-3.
In the third, the Rush would pepper the net with a total of 20 shots, a season high, but Colorado would run away with the battle. The Eagles, known for scoring in bunches, lived up to their reputation as they collected three goals in under five minutes to take a 6-4 lead. Finding the twine for Colorado were Riley Nelson, Jason Deleurme and Kurtis Dulle. Ed McGrane would add an empty-net goal to bring the game to a 7-4 final.
Final shots were in favor of Colorado 44-39. Both teams had four powerplay chances, Colorado being the only team to convert on one.
The Rush now head back home for a pair of games against the Mississippi RiverKings o Firday, November 6th, and Saturday, November 7th. Both games are scheduled for 7:05pm and tickets are still available.
