WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder was shutout 2-0 by the Missouri Mavericks at the Kansas Coliseum on Saturday night. Missouri took a 1-0 lead at 15:58 in the first when Chad Hinz tipped in a shot from defenseman Shaun Arvai that snuck through Scott Campbell's five-hole. Hinz struck again in the second period, again beating Campbell on the five-hole at 8:03 to make it 2-0.
Doug Groenestege earned the shutout, saving all 21 of the Thunder's shots. Scott Campbell took the tough loss, saving 19 of 21. Wichita killed off all five of the Mavs' power plays, running their streak to 28 consecutive kills. Wichita was 0 for 3 on the power play and is now 0 for its last 19. The game marked the second time this season Wichita has been shutout.
The Thunder returns to action on Friday, October 6th when they head to Loveland, CO for a match against the Colorado Eagles. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CST.
