Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

The trio of Atley Calvert, Eric Alarie and Martin Rysavy has put together a strong showing for the Moose Jaw Warriors since coming together during last Tuesday's game.

The line struck for two of the Warriors' three goals in Saturday's shootout loss against Edmonton and then found the back of the net again during Sunday's win over Lethbridge.

"I thought they were our best line throughout the course of the weekend," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said. "When things got a little bit hairy there at times, they're a line that you can lean on to do things right."

After being stifled for much of the first two periods against the Red Deer Rebels, the Warriors switched up its forward line, loading up the top line with Ryder Korczak, Brayden Yager and Jagger Firkus, the team's top-three scorers.

However, the Calvert line also provided a much-needed offensive spark.

All three players have scored since coming together, Calvert and Rysavy on Saturday and Alarie on Sunday.

"As the games went on, we got better and better together," Calvert said. "We play a similar style of game, so it's easy to play with those guys."

O'Leary said it's Calvert that drives the line and provides space for the skill of Rysavy and Alarie.

"Atley has puck skills, but he wins his races and battles to come up with pucks, the pucks seems to follow him around the ice and what his work ethic brings," he said.

"Eric and Marty are bigger guys, but they have skill on their own and when they're at their best, they're hard to take the puck off."

Alarie said with only a few days of practice together, the line came together quickly because of how similar they play.

"We were hard in practice and that created chemistry," he said. "We're all three guys are hard working and we know every time someone battles in the corner, he can win the battle and get the puck, so I have confidence in both of them."

The line is strong in the offensive end, but also responsible in the defensive zone, which will be key for the Warriors as they move through the season.

"We just like to play hard and physical," Calvert said. "I take pride in my defence and those guys do too and we do a pretty good job at both ends of the ice."

Alarie said the more the line plays together, the better they expect to get.

"We only had a week of practice together before those two games, so the more that we practice, the more we play, we'll create chemistry for sure," he said.

The trio will get more time to work in practice together with the Warriors off until Friday when they travel to Brandon to take on the Wheat Kings.

Moose Jaw is home on Saturday for its Hockey Fights Cancer game against the Regina Pats. Tickets are available at mjwarriors.ca or the Mosaic Place Box Office.
