Portland Winterhawks News Release
It was a solid return to VMC ice for the Winterhawks, who perhaps deserved a better result in regulation time, but the bounces just wouldn't go their way down the stretch as the Silvertips forced OT and took the victory in the extra frame.

The Story:
The Winterhawks return to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum was a strong one for the better part of 60 minutes, but a balanced effort for much of the game gave way to an unfortunate loss in overtime. During regulation time, the team never trailed Everett - who has yet to lose to a team beside Portland and has not lost in regulation time to any team - but a pair of go-ahead tallies didn't stick for the Hawks.
Clay Hanus had "TNT" bumping in the arena with a long-range strike just shy of midway through the opening frame, but a quick response from Alex Swetlikoff leveled the score on an Everett power play just two minutes later. From there, the two teams traded chances, but netminders Dante Giannuzzi of Portland and Braden Holt of Everett were unflappable through the end of the second period.
In the third, Portland again took the lead behind Aidan Litke's fourth goal of the season and carried that advantage until Ronan Seeley scored on a beautiful individual effort for Everett at 12:23 of the final frame. The Hawks pushed hard to the end of regulation, but a few key blocks from Tips defensemen ensured an overtime period would be needed, and just 1:24 into the extra stanza, Hunter Campbell raced in on a 2-on-1 with Swetlikoff and redirected a pass beyond Giannuzzi for the Silvertips win.
Portland will play the next 10 games on home ice, starting this weekend with a back-to-back series against the Kelowna Rockets on Friday and Saturday.
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:
"If our measuring stick in our league is Everett, you look at our last three games against them - overtime tonight, overtime last time we won in a shootout and then the time before was 1-0. It shows that right now where we're at, we can play head-to-head with those guys."
