Johnson City Doughboys News Release
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - It was Sunday funday in Johnson City, as the Doughboys came back for a 9-4 win over Danville, their 10th in a row.
Danville began the game similarly to how they started Saturday, scoring right off the top, using a pair of singles to drive in the first two runs of the game.
Johnson City then threatened to start the ballgame, but failed to score in the first, the first time all season in which the Doughboys failed to score in the first on consecutive days.
The game would then slow down, as Joel Pineiro would settle in for the Doughboys.
The fourth inning would bring change in the game, both good and bad for Johnson City.
Back-to-back doubles for Danville extended their lead even farther, taking their lead up to four.
The Doughboys' bats once again would need to get into the bullpen, as Danville would go to its relievers, the change that Johnson City was looking for.
A pair of RBI infield singles from Cam King and Danny Infante would bring home the first runs of the day for the Doughboys, opening the floodgates.
It would be discipline that would continue the runs for Johnson City, with runs coming in on walks and hit batsmen, turning a four-run deficit to a one-run lead in the fourth, capping a five-run inning for the Doughboys.
The game was turned over to the bullpen for the Doughboys in the fifth, as Jeremy Wiegman would come on in relief.
The Doughboys' bullpen has been nothing but untouchable this week, failing to allow a single run each of the last four games, and Wiegman would continue that dominance.
Wiegman was just one pitch away from an immaculate inning in the sixth, putting the Doughboys' offense back in the box, looking for insurance.
The insurance would come in a big way in the sixth as the Doughboys would send all nine hitters to the plate, stringing together four consecutive singles to start off a four-run inning.
Those four runs would put the Doughboys ahead by five, 9-4, which would be more than enough for Wiegman to come out and close out the ballgame.
The win was the 10th in a row for the Doughboys as well as the second consecutive comeback win in Johnson City.
With the victory, the Doughboys move to 13-3 on the season. They now have an off day on Monday, before going back into action at Greeneville on Tuesday.
