ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES -

Tonight, the Royals face the Elmira Jackals in the back-end of a two-game set between the two teams at First Arena in Elimra, New York. o

Last night, in the Royals' first road game of Calendar Year 2017, Reading kicked things off with a bang scoring six first period goals and holding off the Jackals from that point forward to notch the team's twentieth victory of the season, 8-2. o

Tonight's game is the fifth in what will be a total of ten regular season games between the Jackals and Royals. So far, Reading has compiled a record of 4-0-0-0 against Elmira, winning the first matchup played here at First Arena (3-2) back on November 25 and taking both games played so far at Santander Arena (6-2) in the season opener for both teams on October 15 and (5-0) on December 28.

-

The Jackals joined the ECHL in the 2007-08 season. Over the course of the ten years that Elmira has been part of the ECHL, Reading has compiled a record of 73-44-12 in 129 total regular season games played between the two organizations.

o

The two teams have also faced off twice in the post-season with Reading claiming the 2008 North Division Semi-Finals (4-2), and the Jackals knocking off the Royals in the best-of-five 2012 Eastern Conference Quarter-Finals (3-2). o

Since the 2013-14 season, the Royals have compiled an overall record of 34-9-3-1 in the last forty-seven games played against the Jackals. o

Since March 10, 2013, Reading has gone 19-2-2-0 in the last twenty-three games played at First Arena in Elmira.

-

Last night's 8-2 win over the Jackals propelled the Royals' record to a season-high eight games over .500 (20-12-1- 1=42), which keeps the team in third place in the North Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference. o

Reading has won six of the last seven games played by the team, and the Royals have compiled a record of 14-4-0-0 in the team's last eighteen games. o

The next six straight games for the Royals are against teams from the North Division. So far, Reading has gone 10-7-1-0 in the eighteen games played against teams in the North and have twenty-three more to go within the Division.

-

The victory last night served to notch the twentieth win for Reading in the team's thirty-fourth game of the year. Last season, the Royals did not reach the twenty-win mark until the forty-fourth game of the year (20-17-4- 3=47)-after a 3-2 win over the Adirondack Thunder on January 30, 2017.

-

Last night, Matt Willows bagged the game's first goal 3:16 into the opening frame. The Royals have scored first in the last seven consecutive games and nine of the last ten played. Overall, Reading has scored first in nineteen of the team's thirty-four games, compiling a record of 13-5-1-0 in those games, which is a .711 save percentage.

-

The Royals notched six goals on thirteen first period shots in last night's 8-2 win over the Jackals. That marked the just the second time in team history that Reading has scored six goals in a single period. Reading also bagged six in the first period of an 8-2 win over the Fort Wayne Komets at the Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on March 20, 2013.

-

After last night's win, the Royals have a positive goal differential in all three periods. The team has played plus-six in the first period (35 goals for - 29 goals against), plus-2 in the second period (42 - 40), and plus-19 in the third period (48 - 29).

-

The eight goals scored in last night's game by Reading tied the team's season-high. The Royals also bagged eight in the team's 8-2 win over the Indy Fuel at Santander Arena on December 9. o

Last night's game marked the fifteenth time in team history that Reading has scored eight or more in a single game. (The team record was set on January 16, 2002, when the Royals beat the Greensboro Generals, 10-3.)
