January 14, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release

MOLINE - The Indy Fuel (11-22-1-2) followed up their Tuesday night victory at Wichita with another road win against the Quad City Mallards (18-15-0-2) Friday night at the iWireless Center. The back-to-back road wins are the first for Indy since Nov. 11 and Nov. 12 victories in Anchorage. The Mallards lose their sixth consecutive game, a streak that began at Missouri on Dec. 31.

The Friday night game featured a more aggressive offense from the Fuel than the team that bested the Thunder 1-0 Tuesday night. Bryn Chyzyk got things going early in the first period after scoring at just over two minutes of play. Quad City responded with a goal of their own with under five minutes reamaining in the first. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the first intermission. Indy then proceeded to score three consecutive goals in the second period in a span of 2:17. Josh Shalla scored after wrapping around behind the goal and sinking the puck in the crease, Alex Guptill scored after a Wideman pass to the right of Mallards goaltender C.J. Motte and Fuel newcomer Paul Zanette found the back of the net on a rebound. Indy had a 4-1 lead at the 3:15 mark in the third period.

Quad City contributed two goals of their own in the second period to cut the deficit 4-3. Like the previous three scores, the Mallards goals came in quick succession; Pavel Jenys scored 22 seconds after Andrew Panzarella. Patrick D'Amico and Matt Rupert rounded out the scoring for Indy. D'Amico notched a goal after his shot bounced off Motte's glove at the midpoint of the third period and Rupert scored with an empty Mallards net with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. Not to be outdone by the prolific scoring, Fuel goaltender Jake Hildebrand recorded 39 saves.

The Indy Fuel won both games on the back half of their four game road trip (2-2-0-0). Indy still sits in seventh position in the Central Division with 25 points but they are just one point behind the Wichita Thunder and nine back from the Kalamazoo Wings.
