Kansas City Brigade
OurSports Central contributor Fran Stuchbury spoke to Kansas City Brigade head coach Kevin Porter following the team's 54-47 victory over the Philadelphia Soul. Porter is in his third season with the team.
Fran Stuchbury: How big was the Brigade victory over the Soul?
Kevin Porter: Our players haven't quit all season. We have played in a bunch of close football games. It's good to be able to come out on top.
FS: During the week you mentioned you might split time at the QB position. What made you decide to stick with D. Bryant the entire game?
KP: I just wanted to challenge him mentally. He stepped up to that challenge and he played well. He has to continue to improve his play. He has accepted everything we put on him and he is continuing to grow.
FS: Is it amazing that your team is still alive for a playoff spot?
KP: That is amazing. We haven't spent much time focusing on that and see if we can get better every week and every day in practice. We hope we can continue to win games down the stretch.
FS: How big was having WR Charles Frederick coming off injured reserve and being able to play tonight for the Brigade?
KP: It was huge; he is a playmaker for us. Our offense is a little different when he is in there because of the things he is capable to do. He played great and had a big game tonight. He made some good plays against Soul DB Eddie Moten, who is a pretty good football player.
FS: How happy were you with the play of your defense?
KP: I thought our defense played tremendous all night. It was a good football game, not a bunch of mistakes on either side. We made stops on defense when we needed to.
FS: How do you like playing games in the new arena, the Sprint Center?
KP: It's beautiful. It's a great place to play Arena Football games and our fans really like going to games there.
