Miami FC News Release
MIAMI, Fla. - The Miami FC went toe-to-toe with the second-place team in the NASL on Saturday night, drawing 0-0 with the Indy Eleven and earning a point. The Miami FC is now unbeaten in their last three NASL games, with three straight shutouts.
Â
The Miami FC came out aggressive to start the match, controlling possession and easily thwarting any opposing attacks. Dangerous build-up plays began in the midfield and were heavily frequent throughout the match.
Â
Ariel Martinez routinely glided through the Indy midfield and backline. His sharp cuts with the ball at his feet left plenty of Indy defenders grasping at air.
Â
In the 33rd minute, he dribbled around a bevvy of Indy defenders on a run to the box from midfield, but ended up being taken down. His free kick sailed just high over the crossbar.
Â
Blake Smith kept up his fantastic recent form, seamlessly holding up the ball on the left half of the midfield and delivering threatening crosses into the box.
Â
He received a good chance to strike the ball from outside of the box at the 39th minute mark and curled a threatening shot on target, but Indy goalkeeper Jon Busch handled it.
Â
Daniel Vega kept the game tied at 0-0 in the 42nd minute when he made a fantastic full stretch save on a bullet from Indy midfielder Omar Gordon.
Â
The Indy Eleven pushed forward more in the second half. The Miami FC backline stood strong, not allowing much to get by them while blocking an array of shots.
Â
Chavez got out on the break in the 63rd minute, piercing through the defense, but his left-footed shot was saved well by Busch. Again in the 86th minute, he was freed up on a counter attack by Martinez, yet his shot was blocked before reaching the goalie.
Â
Substitute Dane Richards provided speedy relief towards the end of the game, freeing himself on counter attacks that made the Indy defense uneasy.
Â
The Miami FC threatened late in the match. During the first minute of stoppage time, Michael Lahoud got his head on a Richie Ryan in-swinging free kick, but his header flew barely high over the goal. Shortly after, a final low cross from Richards found Chavez in the box, only to be blocked at the last minute.
