The El Paso Diablos edge the Fort Worth Cats 4-3

Kory Drew's two-run eighth inning single propelled the El Paso Diablos to a 4-3 victory over the Fort Worth Cats on Thursday night from Cohen Stadium.

The Fort Worth Cats struck in the top of the third inning. Jake Gautreau had a sacrifice fly RBI and Nelson Teilon smoked an RBI double down the left field line for a 2-0 lead.

Fort Worth extended the lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Ken Lup lifted a sacrifice fly to right-field plating Aaron Sisk.

The Diablos rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the game. Alex Derhak and J.D Reininger had RBI singles in the frame. Kory Drew became the hero, with a broken bat bloop single to right-center field, which plated two runners for the 4-3 lead!

The Cats threatened in the ninth inning against Mike Cervera. Fort Worth loaded the bases with one out, on a single by Bryan Fryer and walks to Ed Montague and Jake Gautreau. Mike Cervera settled down and struck out Nelson Teilon and John Allen to close out the game and preserve the victory.

Josh Neitz (5-4) is the winner. He threw eight innings, allowing three earned runs off of six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

KyleYates (0-3) is the loser. He threw one third of an inning allowing three earned runs off of three hits with one walk and no strikeouts.

Dan Grybash threw seven shut-out innings allowing nine hits with four strikeouts and one walk for no-decision.

Mike Cervera picks up his fifth save of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth inning with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Diablos and Cats will square off in the second game of their series on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. Jusef Frias will match up against Lee Gwaltney for Fort Worth. The game will be broadcast live on www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
