Fort Worth, TX (06.25.08) - The Grand Prairie AirHogs used a seven run second inning to help propel them to a 14-5 victory over the Fort Worth Cats on Thursday. Grand Prairie jumped out to a huge lead in the top of the second inning, scoring seven runs and batting around. Drew Holder got the AirHogs on the board first, coming up with a two-run-blast to left field to put the AirHogs up 2-0. After two RBI singles for Noel Trevino and Mike Conroy, Edwin Maldonado came up big at the plate. He rocketed a three run homer to left center field that gave the AirHogs the commanding 7-0 cushion. Passing lightning and thunder delayed the game before the bottom of the third inning for nearly two hours, with play resuming at 10:13 PM. Grand Prairie took the 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI double for David Espinosa. He would finish the game 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Fort Worth put their first run on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Ken Lup brought in Brian Fryer from third on a fielder's choice grounder in the hole at short. The AirHogs added one run in the sixth, three in the seventh, and two in the eighth to pad their lead to an insurmountable 14-1. Fort Worth put four runs on the board in the bottom of the ninth to cut their final deficit to 14-5. John Allen came up with an RBI single to plate Jake Gautreau. Oziel Flores drilled a three run homer to left field to cut the Cats final deficit to under double digits. Kieran Mattison (6-1) pitched a gem in just five innings of work. He allowed no runs on just two hits with a season high seven strikeouts. Pedro Flores (6-1) had a disastrous outing in his first loss of the year for the Cats. He went six innings, surrendering nine earned runs on ten hits with seven walks and five strikeouts. The AirHogs will open a four game road series against the Lincoln Salt Dogs on Thursday at 7:05 PM.
