Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - After trailing by as many as five runs on Monday night, the Vancouver Canadians fought back to win a second straight game by topping the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-6 in 11 innings in front of 4,191 fans out at Scotiabank Field.

The Volcanoes would blast out of the gate in the series opener scoring four runs in the top of the 1st inning. The big blow was a three-run home run off the bat of C Joe Staley to help Salem-Keizer put the C's on their heels.

Vancouver would grab a run in the home half of the frame when 2B Jon Berti would single to center and eventually score on a base hit from DH Steve McQuail to cut the Volcanoes lead to 4-1.

Salem-Keizer was quick to get the run back in the top of the 2nd inning when Ben Thomas would double and come around to count on a single from CF Jesus Galindo off of Vancouver starter RHP Zach Breault.

The Canadians would claw their way back into Monday night's game scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th and 8th innings respectively, but the big blow came in the bottom of the 9th inning with Salem-Keizer leading 6-5. Canadians 1B Kevin Patterson would crush a 0-2 fastball over the right field wall off of Volcanoes closer LHP Phil McCormick that tied the game at 6-6 sending it to extra innings.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, Vancouver completed the comeback when SS Shane Opitz would draw a walk off of Salem-Keizer reliever RHP Brennan Flick, advance out to second base on a single from LF Matt Newman and score on a single to left off the bat of 3B Andy Burns for the 7-6 victory.

With the win, Vancouver improves to 7-13 (.350) on the second half of the NWL season and remain six games back of the West Division leading Aquasox who topped Eugene on Monday night in Eugene, OR.
