Bears Rally in Eighth for Win Over Indians

The Yakima Bears defeated the Spokane Indians 5-3 Tuesday night at Yakima County Stadium. The win pulled the Bears into a two-way tie with Boise for second in the Northwest League East Division in the second half of the season at 10-11.
The two teams traded runs off of lefty starting pitchers Adam Kudryk of the Bears and Chris Hanna of the Indians, who were both solid on the night.
After Matt Jensen hit a one-out single in the second inning, a pair of Indians errors helped him come home with the first run of the game.
Kudryk allowed both of his runs in the third inning, as the Indians took the lead with a triple that came behind back-to-back singles.
The game was tied in the fifth at 2-2 when Kerry Jenkins reached on a lead-off double, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Westley Moss, and scored on a wild pitch.
Kudryk exited the game after a quality start in which he allowed two runs in seven innings. The lefty walked no batters for the first time in 12 starts this season and recorded six strikeouts.
Reliever Victor Acosta loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning, but only one run came into score, and that run was unearned.
The Bears started the bottom of the eighth inning with back-to-back Jimmy Comerota and Garrett Weber singles, followed by a walk from Justin Hilt to load the bases. After a strikeout, Tyler Bream hit a single up the middle that scored Comerota for the tie, but Weber was thrown out at home trying to score from second base. With runners at first and second, Jae Yun Kim hit a two-out double to left centerfield that scored both Hilt and Bream to put the Bears up for good. The entirety of the eighth inning rally came off of the Indians closer Matt West.
Acosta earned the win with the Bears taking the lead after he had given up the go-ahead run to the Indians in the top half of the eighth inning. Justin Albert faced only three batters while converting his third save opportunity in the ninth inning thanks, in part, to the second double play of the night by the Bears defense.
For the second straight night, both Comerota and Danny Pulfer finished with two hits. Bream, Kim, and Jenkins at the bottom of the Bears order all came up with big hits in the victory.
With two wins over the Indians in the first two games of this three-game series, the Bears have back-to-back series wins for the first time this season. In a homestand in which the Bears have won six of seven games, the finale will be played Wednesday. Game time between the Bears and Indians is scheduled for 7:05 at Yakima County Stadium Wednesday night. Right-handed pitchers Alex Capaul of the Bears and Nick McBride of the Indians are the expected starting pitchers.
