Bears Score Seven and Hold on for the Win

The Yakima Bears started a three-game series against the Spokane Indians at Yakima County Stadium with a 7-6 win Monday night. The Bears are now 9-11 in the second half of the Northwest League season, which is only three games back of the division leading Tri-City Dust Devils, who fell to 12-8 with a loss at Boise.
The Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Westley Moss and Danny Pulfer started with back-to-back singles and Jimmy Comerota plated Moss while reaching on an error. After Garrett Weber reached on a walk, Carter Bell hit a bases loaded sacrifice fly to score Pulfer. Comerota came home on a Justin Hilt single and Weber scored on a Van Winkle single.
The Indians scored four runs off of Bears starter Yiomar Camacho in the second inning, and he would leave after recording only one out.
Bears reliever Greg Robinson allowed only one run to score while recording two outs after coming in with the bases loaded. That was one of the four runs charged to Camacho. Robinson pitched three and a third innings and allowed only one hit, but was charged with a run, as he walked four and threw three wild pitches. Robinson earned his first win of the season Monday, as the Bears offense stayed strong while he was on the mound.
Weber reached on a walk to start the bottom of the third inning, and he eventually came in to score on an errant throw by the Indians second baseman on an attempt to turn a double play.
Three consecutive two-out hits produced a pair of Bears runs in the fourth inning. Pulfer singled and scored on a double by Comerota, who scored when Weber hit a single.
After Robinson gave up a run to the Indians in the fifth inning, Willy Paredes tossed two and a third innings without allowing a run. Justin Albert tossed a scoreless eighth inning before turning the ball over to Sammy De Los Santos in the ninth. De Los Santos gave up a run, but had two strikeouts while holding on for his third save of the season.
The Bears collected nine hits and six walks on the game, as every batter in the order reached on at least once on one or the other. Comerota finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Pulfer went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
The Bears and Indians play game two of the series Tuesday at Yakima County Stadium. Game time is set for 7:05. The Bears are expected to start left-handed pitcher Adam Kudryk in the game, while the Indians starter is still to be determined.
