The Cats win 7-1 over El Paso

Joel Kirsten threw a complete game as the Fort Worth Cats downed the El Paso Diablos 7-1 on Saturday night from Cohen Stadium.

Fort Worth struck first in the top of the third inning against Andy Torres. Trey Roberson hammered a double to deep left field. Terrence Green picked up the RBI when he grounded out to short stop giving Fort Worth a 1-0 advantage.

The Diablos tied things up in the bottom of the fourth. Juan Camacho led off the frame as he reached on an error on the third base man Terrence Green. He moved around the horn on a single and a ground out. Jordan Belcher plated him with a sharply hit ground ball to the left side which the short stop Mirizzi bobbled for the error.

Fort Worth exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning against Andy Torres. The Cats picked up six base hits in the frame. Trey Roberson had a two-run triple and Marc Mirizzi blasted a two-run homer to right field in the inning. The Cats took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

The Diablos could not get any offense going against starter Joel Kirsten. Kirsten retired 15 of the final 17 Diablos. Kirsten allowed his final base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Joel Kirsten (3-4) threw the complete game allowing no earned runs off of five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Andy Torres (4-2) threw seven innings allowing seven runs off of 11 hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Mike Cervera threw two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.

The Diablos will close out the series and the first half with a 5:05 PM match up on Sunday with the Fort Worth Cats. Josh Neitz will face off with Nick Martin in the contest. The game will be webcast at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
