St. Paul Saints News Release

LINCOLN, NE (June 30, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints set an American Association record with eight stolen bases, but it didn't help as they lost to the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-3 on Saturday night at Haymarket Park.

The running started in the first inning when Scooter Jordan led off with a walk and stole second. He then took off on a pitch to Matt Brunson, who grounded a ball behind the second base bag, which shortstop Tony Garcia fielded and threw out Brunson, but Jordan scored all the way from second.

University of Minnesota lefty Marcus McKenzie got his professional debut for the Saints and struggled in the first inning. The potent heart of the Saltdogs lineup came through with three runs on four hits with a two-run double from Brett Cooley and an RBI single from Josh Patton.

The Saints swiped two more bases in the second and scored a run on a throwing error by secondbaseman Cody Lusero. When all was said and done Jordan had three stolen bases, Brunson had two, Brent Krause, Skip Adams and Alex Fonseca each had a stolen base.

McKenzie went 4.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two in his debut, but received the loss.

The Saints and Saltdogs will meet in the third game of a four game series on Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints will send LHP Jake Postlewait (5-4, 2.97) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Josh Kauten (5-0, 3.88). The game is not on the radio and can be heard via the internet at saintsbaseball.com.
