Stars and Admirals Set to Tangle in the First Round

The Texas Stars begin the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs on Thursday against the Milwaukee Admirals. Texas finished the regular season as the four seed in the West Division and Milwaukee claimed the one seed by winning the division. The Stars went 5-1-0-0 against the Admirals this season, including a 3-0 mark on the road. Texas opens the series with the first two games of the series at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee on Thursday and Saturday night. Texas will host Game 3 on Tuesday, April 19th at 7:30 PM and Game 4 on Wednesday, April 20th at 7:30 PM at Cedar Park Center. If needed, Game 5 is Friday, April 22nd at 7:30 PM at Cedar Park Center. The best of seven series shifts to Milwaukee for Game 6 and Game 7 if needed.

Dallas Assigns Lukowich and Vincour, Texas Sends Monast to Idaho

The Dallas Stars announced on Monday that the club has assigned defenseman Brad Lukowich and right wing Tomas Vincour to the Texas Stars, Dallas' American Hockey League affiliate. The Texas Stars also announced that defenseman Guillaume Monast has been reassigned to the Idaho Steelheads, Texas' ECHL affiliate.

Lukowich, joined the Dallas Stars in late March to help the team finish the regular season and make a push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 34-year old played in five games for Dallas without picking up a point. He skated in 67 regular season games as the captain of the Texas Stars in 2010-11, tallying 27 points (4g, 23a) and 59 penalty minutes.

Vincour made his NHL debut with Dallas against Phoenix on February 9 after appearing in 44 games for Texas this season. The rookie winger scored five goals and added seven assists for 12 points with 10 penalty minutes for the AHL's Stars. The 20-year old forward played in 24 games for Dallas, scoring his first NHL goal and picking up his first NHL assist for two points. The Brno, Czech Republic, native was selected by Dallas in the fifth round (129th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Monast had one assist in 14 games for Texas over four separate recalls from Idaho. He registered his first AHL point with the Stars this season at Lake Erie on Feb. 16. In 48 regular season games for Idaho this year, Monast scored one goal and had seven assists, while adding 38 penalty minutes. The Quebec native spent his rookie season with Idaho, setting up six goals in 68 games played, helping the Steelheads reach the 2010 Kelly Cup Finals. Monast attended training camp in Dallas and in Texas each of the last two years.

First Round Pick Scott Glennie Joins Texas Stars

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars announced last Wednesday the club has signed forward Scott Glennie to an Amateur Tryout Agreement (ATO).

The rookie made his pro debut in Peoria last week. He played the final four games of the regular season with Texas. The 19-year old was scoreless in the regular season for the Stars. Glennie recently completed a four-year run with the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. He finished second in team scoring this season with a career-high 91 points, including 35 goals and 56 assists in 70 regular season games played. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder was chosen by the Dallas Stars in the first round (8th overall) of the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft. The Winnipeg native led Brandon in playoff scoring with three goals and 10 points in six games.

PK Finds Groove

The Texas Stars penalty kill finished 23rd overall at 80.9% this year. The Stars penalty kill has been superb since March 5, stopping 64 of the last 68 attempts (94.1%). Texas went five games without giving up a power-play goal from March 5 - March 13. The Stars' streak ended on March 19 while visiting the Manitoba Moose, allowing one goal off three attempts. In the last ten games, the team has only given up four power-play goals on the last 49 penalty kills (91.8%). Texas went eight for eight on Saturday at home against the Oklahoma City Barons and finished the regular season three for three in San Antonio.

Another Sellout For Stars

The Texas Stars hosted their fifth sellout crowd of the season on Saturday night at home with 6,863 fans at Cedar Park Center. This past January, the Stars saw a stretch of three sellouts in five home games. January also brought four straight weekend date sellouts. Last season, the Stars had three sellouts and seven regular season sellouts. Texas pushed capacity (6,863) at three home playoff games and set an all-time team record with 7,054 during Game Five of the Calder Cup Finals on June 11, 2010 versus the Hershey Bears. Texas averaged 5,690 for all weekend dates this season and has averaged over 6,000 fans per game on Saturdays. This season, the Stars averaged 5,340 per game, putting them in the top half of the league for attendance.

Texas 0 at San Antonio 1 4/10/11

San Antonio, TX - The Texas Stars were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage 1-0 on Sunday night in front of 9,909 fans at the AT&T Center. San Antonio goalie Joe Fallon stopped all 27 Texas shots to preserve the victory in the season finale for both teams. Rampage forward Viktor Tikhonov scored at 6:06 of the first period and San Antonio held on to close out the regular season with a victory. Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany stopped 27 of 28 shots in the one-goal loss.

Oklahoma City 2 at Texas 0 4/9/11

The Texas Stars were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons 2-0 on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd of 6,863 fans at Cedar Park Center. Oklahoma City goalie Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers made 22 saves in the win, as the Barons clinched a playoff spot. Forwards Colin McDonald and Milan Kyntar each tallied a goal for the Barons on the night. Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped 30 shots, as the Stars end their regular season with 22-12-3-3 mark at home.

Texas 3 at Milwaukee 2 4/8/11

Milwaukee, WI - The Texas Stars defeated the Milwaukee Admirals 3-2 on Friday night in front of 5,893 fans at the Bradley Center. Center Travis Morin scored two goals, including the eventual game-winning goal with 3:19 left in regulation to lead the Stars to victory. Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped 30 shots in the win, as the Stars clinched a spot in the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs. Right wing Raymond Sawada had a goal and an assist, as Texas ended a three-game slide. Milwaukee defenseman Grant Lewis had a goal and an assist as the Admirals dropped their third straight decision and failed to clinch the West Division. Milwaukee goalie Jeremy Smith made 20 saves in the defeat.

Texas 2 at Peoria 3 4/6/11

The Texas Stars were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen 3-2 on Wednesday night in front of 2,668 fans at Carver Arena. Defenseman Jake Gannon scored his second goal of the season with 1:55 left in regulation to cap off a Peoria two-goal comeback. Fellow defender Nathan Oystrick started the rally with a goal midway through the third period to tie the game 2-2. Peoria goalie Jake Allen made 20 saves in the win, as Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped 28 shots in the defeat. Stars forward Francis Wathier and defenseman Philip Larsen each scored in the loss, which prevented Texas from clinching a 2011 Calder Cup Playoff spot. The game marked the Stars third straight loss. It also marked the first time all year that Texas surrendered a lead after two periods of play. Prior to Wednesday night the Stars were 24-0-1-1 when leading after two periods of play.
