Texas Rangers Announce Signing of C Cameron Rupp

ROUND ROCK, Texas - A fan favorite is coming home. The Texas Rangers announced the signing of C Cameron Rupp on Tuesday morning. The University of Texas alum was assigned to the Round Rock Express and will join the team this morning.

Rupp has spent the last five seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, appearing in 296 games with the major league club. The backstop has compiled a .234 batting average with 57 doubles, a pair of triples, 39 home runs and 124 RBI in his major league career. Rupp was designated for assignment by the Phillies on March 26 and claimed by the Rangers.

The Dallas native played for the University of Texas from 2008-2010 and was tabbed a First-Team Freshman All-American selection by both the NCBWA and Louisville Slugger. A year later, Rupp guided the Longhorns to the College World Series, starting 60 games at catcher. His prolific sophomore campaign resulted in a spot on the College World Series All-Tournament Team.

He was drafted by Philadelphia in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft and spent his first eight professional seasons within the Phillies organization.
