Brewers Announce Initial 2018 Sky Sox Roster

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, unveiled their initial roster for the 2018 season today. The Sky Sox will open the new season with seven of Milwaukee's top 30 overall rated prospects, including No. 5-rated outfielder Brett Phillips and No. 2-rated RHP Corbin Burnes, along with nine players returning from the 2017 team.

The initial 2018 Colorado Springs Sky Sox roster breaks down as follows:

No. 2-rated Burnes enters the 2018 season as the second-best prospect in the organization according to Baseball America. He was named the Brewers 2017 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going a combined 8-3 with a 1.67 ERA in 26 starts between Class-A Carolina and Double-A Biloxi. He held opponents to a .200 batting average with 140 strikeouts in 145.2 innings. His 1.67 ERA last season ranked third in all of Minor League Baseball and first in the organization. Last season he was named Brewers Pitcher of the Month for both May (5 games, 4-0, 0.55 ERA with Carolina) and June (5 games, 2-1, 1.53 ERA with Biloxi).

No. 5-rated Phillips batted .276 with 4 HR, 12 RBI and 5 stolen bases in 37 games during four stints with Milwaukee last season as he made his Major League debut with the Brewers on 6/5 vs. San Francisco. In total he made 24 starts (22 games in CF, 2 games in RF). His stints with the team came from 6/5-6/7, 6/9-6/12, 7/14-7/25 and 9/1-end of season. His first career hit was a single off Jeff Samardzija, and he hit his first big league homer on 7/16 vs. Philadelphia, a pinch-hit, 2-run shot off Jeremy Hellickson. He batted .348 (16-for-46, 2 HR, 8 RBI) over his last 17 games with the Brewers, ending the season on a 4-game hitting streak (6-for-16, .375, 1 HR, 4 RBI). He batted .305 with 19 HR (led team) and 78 RBI in 105 games at Triple-A Colorado Springs last year, and enters the 2018 as the fifth-best prospect in the organization according to Baseball America.
