Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals are excited to announce the 2012 Post Season All-Star Team.

Both divisions combined to have 19 elite players on the squad as announced today by League President Tom Kayser from the League Office in San Antonio.

There were five Cardinals selected to the team: Outfielder Oscar Taveras, Second baseman Kolten Wong and Pitchers Keith Butler, Seth Maness and Trevor Rosenthal.

Taveras was named as the Texas League Player of the Year, the second straight Cardinal to receive the honor (Matt Adams, 2011). As of today's announcement, Taveras leads the league in batting average (.322), Hits (146), Extra Base Hits (64), Doubles (35), and Total Bases (261). He also ranks 4th in homers (22) and third in RBI (89). No Springfield Cardinal has led the league in batting average for a single season.

Kolten Wong not only excelled at the plate, but he lived up to all expectations at second base as well. The former 1st round selection out of Hawaii is hitting .287 with eight homeruns and 51 RBI while leading the team with 21 stolen bases. He entered 2012 rated as the 5th best prospect in the Cardinals organization according to Baseball America.

Keith Butler, a former 24th round pick in 2009, ranks second in the league in saves (25) and had recorded 22 straight after being named the Cardinals closer in May. He owns a 5-1 record with a 2.86 ERA, was named a Texas League All-Star at the mid-way point an earned the win in last night's 2nd Half North Division clinching game as well.

Seth Maness was promoted to Springfield in May of 2011 after beginning the season in High Class-A Palm Beach and threw 7.2 innings of shutout baseball with eight strikeouts in his debut, May 21st, against Tulsa. Maness leads Springfield with 10 wins and currently ranks 6th in the league with a 3.41 ERA.

Trevor Rosenthal was sensational in AA posting an 8-6 record with a 2.78 ERA in 17 starts. The former 21st round pick in 2009 and Lee's Summit Native was just the third player ever promoted straight from Springfield to St. Louis joining Steven Hill (2010) and Maikel Cleto (2011). The righty made his major league debut July 18th in Milwaukee and was the 46th former Springfield Cardinals' player to debut with St. Louis.

"We are honored to have five Post Season All-Stars this season, including our second straight Player of the Year" said Vice President and General Manager Matt Gifford. "These players have represented our team and themselves with the upmost class and deserve this as a reward for being great Cardinals on and off the field. This is a great example of our fans opportunity to see the future of Cardinals Baseball every night at Hammons Field."

Balloting was conducted among the league's managers, broadcasters, media relations directors and selected media members.
