Tulsa Drillers catcher Lars Davis and former pitcher Edwar Cabrera have been named to the 2012 Texas League Post-Season All-Star Team. The squad is chosen through voting by league managers and media members and consists of players from both the North and South Divisions.
Springfield's Oscar Taveras was named the TL's Player of the Year, while Frisco's Barret Loux was named the Pitcher of the Year. Keith Bodie of Corpus Christi was selected as the Manager of the Year.
The all-star honor rewards Davis for what has been his best and most consistent season as a professional. The Tulsa catcher has already set career highs for hits, home runs and runs batted in.
Davis has also been solid behind the plate, leading all Texas League catchers with a .998 fielding percentage. He has committed only one error this season.
Cabrera spent just half a season in the league, but he was dominant during that time. The Tulsa lefthander helped pitch the Drillers to a first-half title with an 8-4 record and a 2.94 ERA. He held TL hitters to a miniscule .186 batting average.
Cabrera was promoted from Tulsa straight to the majors by the Colorado Rockies and made his big league debut on June 27, one night before he was to be the starting pitcher in the Texas League All-Star Game at ONEOK Field.
In addition to Cabrera, three other all-stars have also made their Major League Baseball debuts this season. They are: Mike Olt (Texas), Trevor Rosenthal (St. Louis) and Dan Straily (Oakland).
Springfield, Tulsa's opponent in the first-round of the Texas League Playoffs, led all league teams with five members on the elite squad.
Tulsa's Josh Rutledge, who also made his MLB debut this year, surprisingly did not receive a spot on the squad. The infielder hit .304 with 13 homers in just over half a season with the Drillers. He is currently hitting .344 with 7 home runs in 38 games with the Rockies.
Northwest Arkansas Hitting Coach Terry Bradshaw was named the recipient of the Mike Coolbaugh Coach of the Year Award. The award, named after the former Drillers coach who was tragically killed during a game, is given annually to a top minor league coach.
