
Mariot, Marks Promoted to Triple-A Omaha

SPRINGDALE, AR - The Naturals' parent club, the Kansas City Royals announced several transactions on Tuesday affecting the Northwest Arkansas Naturals' roster. Right-hander Michael Mariot and left-hander Justin Marks have both been transferred to Triple-A Omaha. Right-handed reliever Jeremy Jeffress has been transferred to Northwest Arkansas from Kansas City.
Mariot went 6-3 for the Naturals this season in 31 games, 14 starts. The right-hander led the Naturals with a 3.40 ERA, which ranked sixth in the Texas League at the time of his promotion. Mariot also led the Northwest Arkansas in innings pitched with 113.2 and strikeouts with 81. He converted his only save opportunity, and has gotten better as the season has worn on, posting a 2.78 ERA in the second half.
Marks posted a 3-5 record with a 3.80 ERA in 17 starts for the Naturals. The left-hander was named to the Texas League mid-season All-Star team. Marks last pitched on August 25 throwing five and a third innings against the Tulsa Drillers allowing just one unearned run.
Mariot was originally selected by the Royals in the eighth round of the 2010 draft. Marks was acquired from the Oakland Athletics along with RHP Vin Mazzaro in exchange for David DeJesus in November of 2010.
Jeffress has appeared in eight games with the Royals this season working six and two-thirds innings allowing eight hits and two unearned runs, while striking out eight. The right-hander spent the majority of the season with the Triple-A Omaha StormChasers. He posted a 5-4 record with a 4.97 ERA in 37 appearances for Omaha, striking out 61 in 58.0 innings of work. Jeffress also recorded two saves in six chances for Omaha
The-right handed reliever was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers along with INF Alcides Escobar, RHP Jake Odorizzi, and OF Lorenzo Cain in exchange for RHP Zack Greinke and INF Yuniesky Betancourt.
Following the transactions, the Naturals' roster is at 24 one below the Texas League limit of 25.
