Texas Gains Point, Playoff Spot Almost Clinched

March 10, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 10)-One, just one. The Brahmas gained one point Wednesday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre in a 4-3 shootout loss placing them one point away from clinching a playoff spot for the third consecutive season.

The fans at NYTEX began to celebrate at the 10:30 mark in the first, but a ‘no goal' call at the 11:00 mark for Texas only sent momentum the other direction when Tobias Whelan lit the lamp for an Americans 1-0 lead seconds later.

The Brahmas scored the equalizer three minutes into the second when a rebound from Lee Jubinville's shot was left for Scott Thauwald who was able to send it home for his seventh of the season. Allen regained the lead when Jarret Lukin sat near Brett Jaeger's crease and redirected a shot from the point.

Early in the third American's defenseman Tyler Wooddisse was guilty of a high sticking call putting the Brahmas on their third powerplay of the game. With the man advantage and slick stick moves by blueliner Kevin Seibel the Brahmas tied the game once again. Texas' disciplinarian style of play in the game set it up to where their first penalty wasn't called until the third, which proved to be costly setting up a powerplay goal for Allen's Tyler Shelast, his first of the year. It wouldn't be a rivalry unless the teams kept it close and forward Matt Pierce was sure to keep the game tight when on the 4-on-4 scored a wraparound goal on David McKee, sending the game into overtime.

The teams were unable to finish the job in the five minute extra period calling for the shootout where despite Jason Deitsch's goal, which sent the goaltender's water bottle flying, wasn't enough as Jaeger allowed two shots in, including Colton Yellow Horn's game winner.

A Brahmas point on Friday or a Rio Grande Valley loss tomorrow will punch Texas' ticket for the 2010 playoff race. Texas now holds a two point lead over the Laredo Bucks for the third seed in the Southern Conference.

The Brahmas hit the road for a matchup against the Mississippi RiverKings Friday night before returning home Sunday afternoon to face their Southern Conference rivals, Laredo Bucks for a 4:05 PM faceoff at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
