Curse of Corpus Continues As Bucks Fall 4-1

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 4-1 Wednesday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Laredo's loss coupled with Texas' shootout loss puts the Bucks two points behind the Brahmas for third place in the Southern Conference. Laredo falls to 28-20-10 (66 points) on the season.

Chad Costello had two goals and Kevin Beech set aside 24 of 25 shots he faced in net for the Ice Rays as they improve to 27-24-8 (62 points). Laredo's magic number to clinch a playoffs spot remains at four points. The Bucks last regulation home loss came on January 30th against the Ice Rays.

The Bucks four-game home winning streak was snapped as they finish the regular season just 4-9-1 against the Ice Rays (3-4-1 at LEC).

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the first period as the game was scoreless after 20 minutes of play.

The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays 9-6 in the first period.

The Ice Rays scored twice in the second period to take a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Costello put Corpus up 1-0 at the 4:47 mark of the second on a broken play. Costello found himself wide open at the left side of the crease and stuffed the puck in to score his 11th of the season.

Corpus would increase their lead to 2-0 with 3:12 left in the second when Chris Richards slammed in a slap shot from the middle of the slot off a feed from Ryan Bennett. The tally was Richard's 20th of the campaign.

Laredo was outshot in the second period 11-7.

Corpus went up 3-0 at the 8:55 mark of the third when Costello scored his second of the night and 12th of the season.

The Bucks would show some life in the third period when they cut the Ice Rays to 3-1 with 5:44 left when they tallied a shorthanded goal two-men down. Adam Rivet took a pass from Evan Schwabe on a two-on-one break and jammed in a shot on the left side of the crease to score his 10th of the season.

The Ice Rays would go up 4-1 with 2:16 left when Ryan Bennett scored from the top of the left circle off of a drop pass from Chris Richards.

The Bucks and Ice Rays each put up nine shots in the third period as Corpus outshot Laredo in the contest 25-25.

Kevin Desfosses lost his fourth straight game in net as he set aside 22 of 26 shots he faced.

The Bucks travel to Rio Grande Valley Friday night to meet the Bees for the final time this season. Game time is 7:35pm.
