
Terry's Big Night Lifts Woodies Over Mudcats

Zebulon, N.C. - Tied 2-2 in the eighth inning, Curtis Terry lifted a moonshot home run deep into the night sky, and just fair down the left field line, to put the Woodies on top, on their way to a 4-3 victory over the Mudcats.
Down East (24-14), 74-34) tallied 13 hits in the ballgame, and has now won ten straight against Carolina (16-23, 55-53).
The Woodies took the lead in the first inning. Bubba Thompson led off the ballgame with a double off the wall in center field. With Thompson at third and two out, Terry came through with an RBI single to go ahead, 1-0. After a single from Yanio Perez, Julio Pablo Martinez followed with a single to center to put the Woodies up 2-0. However, Perez was thrown out at third base on the play to end the inning.
The Mudcats climbed their way back into the game in the middle innings. Mario Feliciano reached on an error with one out to begin the rally, and after a single from Peyton Henry, Ryan Aguilar drove an RBI single to center, to cut the lead to 2-1.
Then in the sixth, Tristen Lutz led off with a single to right and advanced to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a groundout. After a two out walk to Aguilar, Eddie Silva came through with an RBI single, to end the night of Sal Mendez.
Mendez worked 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five this, he walked two and struck out three, and did not factor in the decision.
After giving up two runs on five hits in the first inning, Aaron Ashby settled down for Carolina, working six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out six.
Cole Uvila (win, 3-3) took over for Mendez in the sixth and struck out the lone batter he faced to strand a pair of runners in scoring positon. Uvila went on to work 2.2 innings, retiring all seven batters he faced, including a career-high five strikeouts.
After the Terry home run to lead off the eighth, Sam Huff singled, and then two batters later Sherten Apostel came through with an RBI double, to put Down East ahead, 4-2. Huff tallied three hits in the ballgame, and has now hit safely in 17 consecutive games. Terry also enjoyed a three-hit night, and the home run was his fifth for the Wood Ducks and 20th overall this season.
In the ninth, Aguilar belted a solo home run off of Joe Kuzia (save, 16) to trim the lead to one. Kuzia gave up back-to-back singles to put the tying and winning runs on base, but battled back to get a groundout to end the ballgame.
The Woodies and Mudcats return to Five County Stadium for an 11 a.m. game on Wednesday. Right-hander Reid Anderson (5-5, 3.80) will take the mound for Down East, facing off with Carolina righty Nelson Hernandez (10-7, 4.43).
