
Keys Score Three in the Ninth to Down Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Despite a dominant start from Jack Patterson, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans fell to the Frederick Keys 3-1 in the series opener on Tuesday night from TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
After eight innings of scoreless baseball, the Keys (13-25, 42-64) broke through in the top of the ninth inning.
Zach Jarrett laced a doubled down the right field line and scored on an RBI single from Jomar Reyes that made it 1-0 in favor of the Keys.
Two batters later, Robert Neustrom delivered the big blow, a two-run homer off of Tyler Peyton(L, 0-3) made it 3-0 Keys after the top of the ninth.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Pelicans (20-19, 41-65) got on the scoreboard against Luis Perez(W, 5-1). Aramis Ademan tripled with two outs in the inning and scored on an infield single from Wladimir Galindo that cut the gap to 3-1.
After Jose Gutierrez entered as a pinch runner and advanced to third after a pair of wild pitches, Kevonte Mitchell drew a walk to put runners on the corners with two outs still in the frame.
Tim Naughton came out of the Keys bullpen and after he walked D.J. Artis to load the bases, he struck out Delvin Zinn to end the ballgame and earn the save in the Keys 3-1 win in the series opener.
Jack Patterson continued his dominance on Tuesday with a career performance. The southpaw tossed five scoreless innings and struck out a career-high nine batters and has now not allowed an earned run in 34.0 innings.
Cameron Bishop matched Patterson's performance with five shutout innings of his own and received a no-decision for the Keys.
The Pelicans and Keys will play the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Alexander Vargas (2-2, 4.25) will toe the rubber for the Birds against RHP Blaine Knight (0-8, 5.91) for the Keys.
