Terrance McClain Leads Dillas Bats to 10-6 Win

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas outfielder Terrance McClain celebrated breaking into the top ten in the United League in hitting by going 4-4 with five RBI and two runs scored as the Dillas defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 10-6 on Tuesday night in front of 1,615 fans at the Amarilo National Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Richard Jessup (3-1) got the win in five and a third innings, allowed five runs but struck out six in the effort. Roadrunners starter Tim Haines (3-3) got the loss as he allowed eight of the Dillas runs while striking out eight.

The Dillas would start out strong in the first inning. As Jessup struck out two of the three batters, Andrew Wong reached on a fielder's choice. Carlos Figueroa singled and McClain singled to bring home Wong. Trent Lockwood singled home Figueroa while McClain scored on a Rafael Ozuna sacrifice fly to give the Dillas a 3-0 lead.

The Roadrunners put their first run on the board in the second inning as Cameron McGuire hit his third homerun on the season, a solo shot, to bring the Dillas lead down to two. In the bottom half, the Dillas would add two more runs. With two outs, Wong singled, Figueroa doubled and McClain singled to bring home both runners for a 5-1 lead.

Amarillo would add to their lead in the fourth as McClain hit a double with Keanon Simon and Wong on base to move the Dillas up by six. Edinburg would put up another run in the fifth as Robert Matlock walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Bryon Smith single. Smith would score on an Osiel Flores single to bring the deficit to four at 7-3.

The Dillas would add on more in the bottom half with a Brian Bueno RBI double to score Ozuna, but the Roadrunners would also score. In the sixth, Amado German singled and went to third on an error. He would score on a Vince Blue double, who would go to third on a wild pitch and score on a Matlock RBI groundout to bring the score to 8-5.

Edinburg threatened in the eighth as the bases were loaded with only one out. Dillas reliever Robbie Wooley delivered a walk to score a run, by Smith came in and struck out Flores and got Eric Gonzalez to flyout to end the inning at 8-6.

Amarillo added two insurance runs in the eighth as Lockwood singled home both Figueroa and McClain for a 10-6 lead. Matt Smith came in and pitched a perfect ninth to complete the win.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 18-15, while the Roadrunners fall to 16-17. Wednesday, Amarillo will host the Roadrunners for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
