
Roadrunners Make Some Roster Changes

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners of United League Baseball (ULB) have announced today the additions of outfielder Hunter Owen, pitcher Danny Rondon and infielder BJ Wheeler to their 2009 squad. In order to make room on the roster infielder Eunique Johnson was released and infielder Angel Reyes was traded to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
Owen, out of Jackson, Mississippi, comes to Edinburg after a tenure at Millsaps College where he ended his senior campaign with a .404 batting average while leading all Division III players with 70 RBIs and had 11 home runs . He made his professional debut with the Roadrunners at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the start of the Coastal Bend Thunder series acquiring a .444 batting average, with five RBIs' and his first professional home run in just three games.
Rondon, a Venezuela native, has pitched five innings while walking one and striking out one in five innings of work and most recently picked up his first win of the season with a 3-2 win Monday against the Thunder. He most recently was with the Minnesota Twins organization in the Appalachian League (APPY) with Elizabethtown where he put in 36 innings of work in 22 games, while striking out 30.
Wheeler, a graduate of Oklahoma City University, is originally from Abilene, Texas and most recently played with Bossier-Shreveport out of the American Association. While at Shreveport he acquired a .244 batting average with 20 hits and 11 RBIs and was acquired after Reyes was traded to the WhiteWings.
Reyes, while with the Roadrunners accumulated a .259 batting average in 30 games with 17 RBIs and on the defensive end committed 11 errors.
The Edinburg Roadrunners continue play today at Amarillo for the first of a four-game series with the Dillas and travel to Laredo to face the Broncos for a four-game series before returning home to battle the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings for a Thirsty Thursday on July 23rd. Its $2 beer all night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
The Roadrunners are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas that include Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Laredo, Rio Grande Valley and San Angelo.
