
Reyes Makes Big Splash in Loss

Laredo - Angel Reyes went 4-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored in his Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings debut as they fell to the Laredo Broncos 9-6 tonight at Veterans Field.
The Broncos (11-22) got on the board right away against Juan Jimenez (0-2). Luis Ugueto and David Cardona led off the game with singles. A wild pitch moved the runners to second and third. Mario Mendez followed with an RBI-ground out and Argelis Nunez hit an RBI-double. Nunez moved to second on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
The Broncos added three unearned runs in the third. With two outs, Mendez reached on an error and scored on a single by Nunez. Luany Sanchez followed with a single and Andres Santo hit a two-run double to make it 6-0.
The WhiteWings (14-19) broke through against Luis Arroyo (1-3) in the fourth. Brian Nichols led off with a single Alberto Cruz hit a grounder back to the mound, but Arroyo's throw was in back of the bag because that's where Ugueto was standing. Reyes followed with an RBI- single and Jonathan Poterson hit into an RBI fielder's choice. Rafael Zorrilla singled and Casey Allen followed with a two-run double, moving to third and scoring on misplays by Cardona in leftfield to make it 6-5.
In the bottom of the fifth, Mendez hit a leadoff triple. After a walk to Nunez, Sanchez hit an RBI-single. Nunez and Sanchez a double-steal, but Sanchez was thrown out at second. One out later, Nunez scored on a single by O.J. Garza to make it 8-5.
In the sixth, Jaime Morales led off with a single, moved to third on a Ugueto single and scored when Cardona grounded into a double play to make it 9-5.
The WhiteWings got a run back in the eighth. With one out, Reyes and Potterson singled. With two outs, Allen hit an RBI-single to make it 9-6.
Former-Florida Marlins pitcher Franklyn Gracesqui pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.
The WhiteWings and Broncos play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:35 at Veterans Field. Left-hander Eric Domangue (0-1) is expected to face left-hander Will Palmer (0-0).
