Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves have announced the following transactions affecting the Gwinnett 25-man roster today: third baseman Joey Terdoslavich has been transferred from Gwinnett to Double-A Mississippi, while infielder Ruben Gotay has been acquired via trade with Toronto and assigned to Gwinnett. Gotay is available for tonight's game at Lehigh Valley.
Terdoslavich, 23, made his Triple-A debut as a part of the G-Braves' Opening Day roster this season. The No. 11 prospect in the Atlanta Braves system as rated by Baseball America, Terdoslavich struggled both offensively and defensively in 53 games with Gwinnett. He hit .180 with four home runs and 20 RBIs and posted a .831 fielding percentage in 49 starts at third base. His 22 errors in 50 total games are the most in the International League. The assignment to Double-A Mississippi is Terdoslavich's first, as he played all of 2011 with Advanced-A Lynchburg. He hit .286 with 52 doubles, 20 home runs and 82 RBIs as Atlanta's Minor League Player of the Year a season ago.
Gotay, 29, returns to the Braves organization in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. Gotay had been with Toronto's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas (Pacific Coast League), hitting .346 with three doubles, 14 RBIs and three stolen bases in 22 games.
Gotay is a veteran of 12 professional seasons, including two previous years in the Braves organization and one prior stint with Gwinnett. He appeared in 88 games with the Atlanta Braves in 2008, hitting .235 with two home runs and eight RBIs. After starting off the 2011 season with Triple-A New Orleans (Florida Marlins), Gotay joined the G-Braves and hit .253 with four doubles, three home runs, 25 RBIs and six stolen bases in 72 games.
With the addition of Gotay (no number yet selected), the active Gwinnett roster stands at 25 players.
The Gwinnett Braves (33-25) begin a four-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (31-26) tonight at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. Right-hander Todd Redmond (5-3, 2.76) of the G-Braves goes up against left-hander Tom Cochran (2-1, 4.70) of the IronPigs, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM.
