Ten Hitmen Prospects Invited to Development Camps for Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club is pleased to announce all 10 of their 2011 Western Hockey League Bantam Picks will take part in provincial development camps in preparation for the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup.

Manitoba's development camp runs today through Sunday in Winnipeg with two Hitmen prospects on the ice, Travis Sanheim, a ninth round pick and Skylar Canada (Boissevain) a 10th round pick among the 42 invites.

Alberta's development camp takes place July 18-24 in Camrose with two Hitmen prospects on the 80 player invite list; defenceman Ben Thomas of Calgary and forward Logan Franz from Medicine Hat. Thomas was a third round pick while Franz was a fifth round selection.

BC's development camp in Penticton from June 30 to July 4 will have no shortage of Hitmen flavor with four prospects on the invite list. Forwards Jake Virtanen (Abbotsford), the number one overall pick and Chase Lang (Nanaimo) a fifth round pick, along with defenceman Josh Thrower (Squamish) a Hitmen second round selection and goaltender Kyle Michalovsky (Kamloops) an 11th round choice.

Saskatchewan's development camp will take place in Wilcox July 18-22 with two Hitmen prospects invited; forwards Braden Oleksyn (Saskatoon) a third round selection and Ryan Duret (Prince Albert) a sixth round choice.

From these provincial camps, players will be shortlisted and scouted with their club teams until all four provinces name their 20 player rosters that will compete in the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup from October 28-31, 2011 in a yet to be named Saskatchewan host city.

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup occurs in the off years of the Canada Winter Games.
