Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL---- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that barring a medical setback, Cubs left-handed starter Ted Lilly will be rehabbing with the Chiefs Monday, April 19 at 6:30 at O'Brien Field. Tickets for the rehab start are Half-Price and currently on sale online at www.peoriachiefs.com , by calling 1-866-MYTICKET and at the O'Brien Field Box Office which is open today until 5:00 p.m. Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, however, tickets are still available for the general public immediately. Lilly, a 2009 National League All-Star, rehabbed with the Chiefs last August and he is scheduled to start and pitch four-to-five innings.

Lilly started for Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday night in a rehab start against the Memphis Redbirds. In that outing he allowed one run on one hit over four innings while striking out four. The only hit he allowed was a solo homer in the top of the first to former St. Louis Cardinals infielder Tyler Greene. Last season, the southpaw was 12-9 with a 3.10 ERA in 27 starts for Chicago. He struck out 151 and walked just 36 in 177 innings while holding opponents to a .230 average en route to his second career All-Star selection. Lilly was placed on the 15-day DL on July 25 (retroactive to July 21) with left shoulder inflammation and also underwent knee surgery during his time on the disabled list. The DL stint had him rehabbing with the Chiefs last season on August 12 in front of 6,118 fans at O'Brien Field. In that outing, also against the Burlington Bees, Lilly threw five shutout innings allowing two hits and one walk while striking out two. He picked up the win as the Chiefs beat the Bees 11-1.

The 34 year-old was signed by the Cubs as a free agent prior to the 2007 season after spending seven years in the American League and one year before that with the Montreal Expos. Lilly was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 1996 draft out of Fresno City College. He made it as high as Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers organization before being traded to the Expos in 1998 along with Wilton Guerrero, Peter Bergeron and Jonathan Tucker for former Cub Mark Grudzielanek, Hiram Bocachica and Carlos Perez. He made his ML debut with the Expos on May 14, 1999 and was traded that off-season to the New York Yankees along with pitcher Jake Westbrook and two PTBNL in exchange for pitcher Hideki Irabu. Over the next two and a half years, he went 8-12 in 49 games including 32 starts for the Yankees. Lilly was then traded to the Oakland Athletics on July 6, 2002 in a three-team deal that also involved Detroit with the Yankees landing right-handed starter Jeff Weaver. Lilly had a breakthrough campaign the following season with a 12-10 record and a 4.34 ERA in a then career-high 31 starts, 32 appearances. He was traded one more time on November 18, 2003 to the Blue Jays in exchange for outfielder Bobby Kielty and cash. With Toronto in 2004, he was named to his first All-Star team on his way to another 12-10 season and a 4.06 ERA.

Over the next two years, he went 25-24 in 57 starts with Toronto. He signed a four-year deal with the Cubs on December 15, 2006 and began his Cubs career in 2007 with a 15-8 record in a career-high 34 starts to go along with 3.83 ERA. In 2008 he won a career-high 17 games with nine losses and a 4.09 ERA in 34 starts. Lilly threw at least 200 innings in his first two full seasons in Chicago before injuries limited him to 177 in 2009. In three seasons Lilly is 44-26 in Chicago with a 3.70 ERA in 95 starts. He won his 100th game last July and has a career mark of 103-84 in 280 outings and 255 starts. Lilly has made four post-season rosters (2002-2003 with Oakland and 2007-2008 with the Cubs) and in five post-season outings including two starts, he is 0-2 with a 6.61 ERA.

Season ticket holders have priority on seat selection until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. However, tickets are still available for the general public immediately by calling 1-866-MYTICKET, online at www.peoriachiefs.com or at the O'Brien Field Box Office. The Box Office is open until 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will reopen Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Due to the Major League rehab, the Never-A- Wasted ticket policy is suspended for Monday's game but all tickets are Half-Price as part of the season-long Half-Price Monday deal at O'Brien Field. Club Box Seats are $5.00 for Monday's 6:30 p.m. start and Lawn Seats are $3.50.

Lilly will be the first player to rehab with the Chiefs this season. Last year Chiefs fans saw Lilly, Reed Johnson, Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Zambrano at O'Brien Field while Angel Guzman pitched for the Chiefs in Kane County on June 30. Past Cubs rehabs have included Kerry Wood, Nomar Garciaparra, Mark Prior, Henry Blanco, Scott Williamson, Scott Eyre, Jon Lieber and Wade Miller.
