Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Ice Hockey Association of India, in partnership with Brampton Beast Hockey Club and The Hockey Foundation, have unveiled the uniform that Team India will be wearing for the game against the Beast on Friday, October 9 at the Powerade Centre.
Combining the colours of the Indian flag, orange, white, green and blue, with the national animal of India, the Bengal tiger, serving as the crest, Team India head coach Adam Sherlip and his team are proud to don these sharp uniforms for their historic game against the Beast.
"There are a number of firsts regarding Team India's new jerseys that we are very excited about," Sherlip explains.
"First of all, they're going to be worn for the first time ever in Team India's first-ever match in North America. Secondly, the design itself is unique as it incorporates the dark blue of the Ashoka Chakra in the middle of India's flag as a primary jersey color, similar to India's cricket and field hockey teams."
In the background of the jersey, the phrase "Chakde" will appear written in English, Hindi and Punjabi. This phrase is used as a term of encouragement, similar to the phrase "Let's Go!" in North America.
The uniform was designed in partnership with OTB Athletic based in Calgary, Alberta and are manufactured by Laga Sports in Burnaby, British Columbia.
A limited quantity of replica jerseys will be available for purchase at the Powerade Centre during the game on October 9. The price of the jerseys will be $99.99 plus tax (CAD).
