
Team Black Caps Comeback with 6-5 OT Win

Team Black pulled off a 6-5 come from behind overtime victory in the IceDogs annual Black and White game on Thursday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
The first period saw the both goaltenders put on a solid performance, as both Christopher Festarini and Brent Moran were solid, each allowing a single goal. Marco Lizzote would open the scoring 6:35 in for Team White, beating Festarini to make it 1-0. Steven Shipley would tie things up 1-1 with just over five to go in the first sending the teams into the first intermission all tied up. Shots after 17-13 after one in favour of Team White.
The second period would see things opened up, as the teams combined for five goals. Team Black would take the lead as Ben Hughes scored to make 2-1. Team White would then storm back with a pair of goals from Brian Brosnan and Joel Wigle less than two minutes apart to make it 3-2. A Brock Beukeboom point shot would then find the back of the net to stretch the lead to 4-2 Team White before Anthony DiFruscia closed the gap to 4-3 after 40 minutes. In addition to all the goals, the period also had a spirited bout as Lizotte and Alex Campbell.
The third period saw White extend the lead to 5-3 as Carter Verhaeghe scored 3:55 in. Black would battle back with a pair of goals less than a minute apart as Shipley scored his second of the night before Jordan Poirier scored to tie things up at 5-5 and send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Ryan Kinsella would send Team Black home victorious as he tipped home a Mike Robinson point shot at the 3:09 mark to make it a 6-5 final.
With the Black and White game in the books, the team will make another round of cuts, before their first exhibition game tomorrow night in Ancaster against the Erie Otters. Game time is 7pm and all the action can be heard like on 610 CKTB!
After tomorrow, the IceDogs will return home to host the Oshawa Generals in their first home exhibition game Labour Day Monday at 2pm.
