Marcus Power's seventh round shootout goal lifted the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to a 3-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers as exhibition play kicked off at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. Ryan Murphy led the Rangers, scoring once and adding an assist.

Maxime St. Cyr opened the scoring for the Huskies, sliding the puck behind the left skate of Rangers netminder John Gibson near the midway point of the first period. The goal was assisted by winger Mathieu Lemay.

Rouyn-Noranda's lead proved short-lived, however, as Ryan Murphy found the back of the net just 51 seconds later. The fourth-year rearguard served as the Rangers' captain for the evening, as the team will rotate the 'C' during preseason play. Murphy's power play goal was assisted by Tobias Rieder and evened the score at 1-1.

The teams skated through a scoreless second period, with each netminder stopping 24 shots through 40 minutes of play.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead early in the final frame after Jean-Sebastien Dea flipped the puck over the left pad of Gibson. Cody Donaghey and Allan Caron picked up assists on the play.

The Rangers would pull even with 5:20 remaining in the third period. Matt Puempel's shot bounced off a Huskies defenseman in front of the net, and Radek Faksa was there to bat the puck out of the air and past Rouyn-Noranda goalie Robin Gusse. Murphy also collected an assist on the play, his second point of the contest.

Rouyn-Noranda finished regulation time with a 32-31 advantage in shots on goal.

The contest was decided in a shootout. After Kitchener forward Matt Puempel and Huskies winger Sven Andrighetto each scored, the shootout remained even through six rounds. Marcus Power potted the game winner for Rouyn-Noranda in the seventh round.
