PENSACOLA, Fla. - Taylor Sparks has been crushing Southern League pitching since the All-Star break earning him Southern League Player of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday. The league selected Sparks based on his performance over the nine games he's played in over the second half. He joins RHP Daniel Wright as the only other Wahoo to get league Player of the Week recognition.

The third baseman leads the league with a .423 average, .885 slugging percentage and 1.385 OPS since the break. He has six extra-base hits over that span including two home runs. Sparks enters July coming off his best month of the year, hitting .279 in June. Over the last nine games, Sparks has raised his average 26 points.

Sparks was a second round pick of the Reds in 2014. In his third season with the Blue Wahoos, he has helped lead the team to a Southern League-best 7-2 second-half record. The Blue Wahoos enter Monday's doubleheader with the Mississippi Braves on a seven-game win streak and a one-game lead over the Mobile BayBears in the South Division second half standings.
