Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - The Biscuits (44-37) won their fifth-consecutive game behind an unbelievable start from Sam McWilliams (3-4) and an RBI-double from Nate Lowe to take another from the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (31-48), 1-0, on Monday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

McWilliams, the 22-year-old from Orlando, Florida, who was coming off of back-to-back losses in the Biscuits' first six-game series of the Second Half against the Birmingham Barons, fired in eight scoreless innings of three-hit ball, walking just two batters and striking out seven en route to his third Double-A win. The outing proved to be the longest of McWilliams' young career.

Nick Neidert (7-5) on the other side for Jacksonville was also outstanding, but made just one mistake early on. After Nick Solak grounded into what appeared to be an inning-ending double play in the top of the first, the Biscuits center fielder beat out the relay throw to first base on a hustle play, which proved to be crucial, keeping the inning alive. With two outs, and Solak at first, Lowe climbed in and belted an opposite field RBI-double that was the only run the Biscuits required on this night.

Neidert matched McWilliams by tossing eight innings, and his run was unearned, thanks to an error by Jumbo Shrimp first baseman Eric Jagielo. Neidert also surrendered four hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts in the defeat.

After retiring 11 in a row at one point, and getting out of a jam in the sixth with one out and runners at second and third, McWilliams cruised past the seventh and eighth, before handing the reigns to Curtis Taylor, who struck out the Jumbo Shrimp side in the bottom of the ninth for a save and the Biscuits ninth shutout win of the season. The victory was also just the third one-run win on the road for the Biscuits this season (3-8), with all three one-run victories coming in this series against Jacksonville.

The Biscuits will go for a rare six-game sweep on Tuesday when an opener takes on Jeff Brigham (3-0) at 6:05 PM CT.

The Biscuits will head back to Montgomery to open up a four-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM CT for their Independence Day Celebration and MAX Fireworks. The series will also feature a Patriotic T-shirt giveaway on Thursday, July 5, Video Game Night with a Post-game E-Sports Tournament and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 6, and Christmas in July and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 7.
