St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 23, 2015) - Logan Taylor pitched brilliantly in leading the St. Lucie Mets to a 1-0 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.

Taylor only needed 80 pitches to toss seven scoreless innings. He did not walk a batter and tied his season high with eight strikeouts. The only hit Taylor allowed was a one-out double in the third inning that took a bad bounce off the first base bag.

Kelly Secrest pitched out of trouble in the eighth, and Kyle Regnault pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout to notch his fifth save.

The lone run for the Mets came in the fifth. Matt Oberste led off with a single and the ball was misplayed in right field by Justin Williams. That allowed Oberste to advance to second. Oberste went to third on a ground out by Dominic Smith and he scored on a wild pitch by Greg Harris.

Secrest gave up a leadoff single in the eighth and issued a one out walk. Jhoan Urena bailed him out when he made a nice pick at third base with two in scoring position and threw to first base for the final out.

Charlotte suffered its second consecutive shutout and fifth in the month of August. The Stone Crabs have lost eight in a row.

Oberste and Stefan Sabol each had two hits for the Mets.

The Crabs only had two hits in the game. Harris pitched seven strong innings.

The Mets (64-62, 29-27) and Stone Crabs (63-61, 18-36) play game 2 of their series on Monday at Charlotte Sports Park. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
