Midland RockHounds News Release

The RockHounds hit five home runs Thursday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. The first three of those long balls got the 'Hounds a 4-4 tie through six innings. The last two put eight runs on the board, with Beau Taylor and Jake Goebbert hitting grand slam home runs. Taylor's slam broke the 4-4 tie in the seventh, while Goebbert (a former Hook) capped the scoring in the ninth.

The 'Hounds scored 10 unanswered runs beginning with Taylor's seventh-inning slam, and RockHounds pitchers (although stumbling in the fourth with walks) did not allow a hit after the fourth.

Anthony Aliotti busted out of a 1-for-15 slump with a first inning homer, ending the night 4-for-6 and raising his league-leading average to .354. Dusty Coleman hit his first home run of the year (a two-run HR) and Conner Crumbliss hit his third in 18 games with the 'Hounds, both coming in the fourth for a 4-2 lead.

Corpus scored twice to tie the game in the home half of the fourth, and did it without putting the ball in play. Starter Sean Murphy walked three and hit one batter and Mike DeMark walked one in relief before striking out Domingo Santana to end the inning. Two of the walks came with the bases loaded, forcing in runs.

The 'Hounds, however, would then do their own damage with the bases loaded, with the two slams from Taylor and Goebbert breaking the tie and capping the night, respectively.

Kibbles & Bits

- Little things lost in the box score: Mike DeMark did allow a base-loaded walk in the fourth, but then retired seven consecutive batters, all with the game tied at 4-4. David Freitas went 1-for-6, but his seventh-inning single was key, coming with the game tied and on an 0-2 pitch. The hit loaded the bases and Taylor followed with his towering grand slam.

- Of the RockHounds' 14 runs, TWELVE came on home runs.

- Corpus Christi entered this series 20-8 at home, and the 'Hounds were 0-4 at Whataburger Field. After the Hooks won the series opener, the 'Hounds have won two straight, gaining no worse than a split of the four-gamer.

- The RockHounds and Hooks conclude their four-game series in Corpus Christi Friday night (first pitch at 7:05).

- The RockHounds then return home to open one of the season's best home stands. The eight-game opens Saturday (June 8) with Beach Towel Night and runs through Saturday the 15th. The home stand includes a Sunday afternoon game (4:00) ... "Thirsty Thursday" (the 13th) ... Kids' Jersey Night (Friday the 14th) ... and A.J. Griffin Bobblehead Doll Night (Saturday the 15th).
