Portland, Ore. - The Western Hockey League today announced that Winterhawks goaltender Taylor Gauthier has been named Goaltender of the Month for January.

This honor comes one day after Gauthier earned WHL Goalie of the Week honors for the second time in four weeks.

Gauthier, 20, posted a 7-0-0-0 record in January, with a .945% save percentage and a 1.70 GAA in that span. The Calgary, Alta. native stopped 25+ shots in six of those seven appearances, the lone exception being his 17-save shutout against Tri-City on Jan. 30.

Gauthier made his Winterhawks debut on Jan. 8 with a 38-save win over Kelowna, an effort which earned him Goalie of the Week honors for the first of two times last month. From there, the veteran netminder backstopped Portland to an overtime victory in Seattle with a season-high-tying 48 saves on Jan. 14, followed by 25 saves in a win over Kamloops two days later. The following week, Gauthier again helped knock off the Thunderbirds with 27 saves, then stopped 26 shots in an OT win over Spokane the next day. Wrapping up his big month, Gauthier faced down his former club Prince George with a 26-save showing in a 4-1 win, then notched his first shutout of the year with 17 saves on 17 shots against Tri-City on Jan. 30.

Dating back to Dec. 11, Gauthier has won 10 straight appearances with both Prince George and Portland. Among WHL goaltenders with multiple starts, he currently ranks first in save percentage (.930%), sixth in GAA (2.38) and tied for 10th in wins (14) with teammate Dante Giannuzzi.
