Guelph Storm News Release
The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Taylor Beck is the AMJ Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 17th.
Beck was the Storm's top scorer this week recording three goals and four assists for seven points in two games played. Friday night against the Attack, Beck recorded a point on two of the three Storm goals in the 4-3 loss. He helped set up Cody McNaughton on the powerplay to get the Storm on the scoreboard first and later scored with 12 seconds remaining to pull the game within one. On Sunday afternoon in front of 4,331 fans at the Sleeman Centre and a Rogers Sportsnet audience, Beck scored twice and assisted three times. He was in on two of Peter Holland's four goals and set up Sam Lofquist's blast on the powerplay. Named second star of the game, Beck was a +3.
Having a tremendous year in 2009-10, the 18 year old leads all Storm players with 65 points. His 25 goals and 40 assists put him 26 points ahead of Mathew Sisca, who sits second on the team with 39 points. He is tied with Sisca for goals scored with the man advantage (8) and leads all teammates in assists (40), goals (25) and plus/minus (+11). As of Sunday's game against the Wolves, Beck has set up or scored 45% of the Storm's goals so far this year.
Producing at over a point and a half per game, the Predators 3rd round pick is tied for 13th overall in the league for goals scored and his 40 assists have him tied for second overall with Windsor Spitfire Taylor Hall. Topping off his outstanding week, Beck was named to the OHL All-Star team on Wednesday.
Next up, the Storm has a busy week ahead playing three games in four days. Traveling to Sarnia on Thursday night, they face off against the Sting before heading home on Friday for a home date against the Saginaw Spirit. Sunday afternoon, the Erie Otters come to town for a 2 pm puck drop. Tickets are still available for Friday and Sunday and can be purchased online or by calling or visiting the Guelph Storm at 519-837-9690.
